KOGs 1st Edition Collectibles
Became #1 After Only 4 Weeks
From the outside looking in, going from WAX newcomer to undisputed champion may seem as if it were easy. But what you can’t see on the WAX NFT ranking page are 18 months of preparation.
In other words, we didn’t “get lucky.” Instead, we plotted and plodded to concoct an interoperable gaming ecosystem powered by collectible tokens.
While phase 1 revolves around collectibility, phase 2 is all about playability — more on that later. But before we look forward, let’s have a quick peek at how it all began …
August 18: Launch Day
The KOGs ecosystem began its public journey in late summer. During a 3-hour sales window, collectors could purchase unlimited Booster & Starter packs for $5 and $25, respectively.
At the end of those 3 hours, collectors had exchanged a total of U.S. $160k in $WAXP tokens, with 6,183 Boosters and 6,622 Starters hitting personal wallets.
Since then, both pack sizes have seen their market price rise by 10x. Prices constantly fluctuate and are determined by what individuals ask for on secondary markets.
But one thing’s set in stone: Most collectors are kicking themselves for not picking up more cheap packs on day 1.
September 11: 1st Peach Dream Foil 8 Ball Slammer Emerges
The chances of any given KOG or Slammer popping out of a pack are tied to a fixed percentage. The highly sought-after Foil Slammers that fall under the Ultra-Rare category? The odds of pulling one is a slim 0.04%. And some -- the Foil 'Satoshi' Slammer in the Pineapple border -- have yet to appear.
That explains why it took a few weeks of packs opening before this one surfaced — a gorgeous 8 Ball draped in a Peach Dream border:
September 19: KOGs Leads Secondary Markets
While multiple marketplaces exist, the bulk of KOGs action takes place on AtomicHub.
And roughly 1 month after the KOGs 1st Edition NFTs appeared on WAX NFT collectors’ radar, the series hit #1.
Despite the lack of immediately recognizable IP — Garbage Pail Kids, for example — and other series having a headstart, KOGs still rose above the rest. And we haven’t looked back since!
October 5: KOGs Trade Volume Reaches 10M $WAXP Tokens
As NFT enthusiasts began buying and selling and trading to complete sets, KOGs’ value on secondary markets escalated.
In the very early days, you could pick up an Ultra-Rare ‘Bitcoin’ KOG for around $15. But now, you’d be lucky to score one of these digital collectibles for under $300.
Naturally, as overall prices increase, the amount of WAX required to buy KOGs also rise.
10M WAXP was a fantastic milestone! But we can’t stop collectors from continuing their relentless pursuit of Border Sets, Rainbow Sets, Series Sets — and the truly rare Supersets.
November 21: KOGs Trade Volume Surpasses 15M
Like a giant, rock-filled snowball careening down a mountain, KOGs’ momentum is now tough to contain.
We crossed the 15M WAX benchmark last week. But by the time you read this, we’re probably closer to 16M.
So, how much do 1st Edition KOGs fetch on AtomicHub nowadays? Common KOGs can be had for roughly 20 WAXP.
But some of the rarer items have sold at eye-popping prices …
Massive Individual Sales
We’ll go in reverse chronological order here and begin with a super-rare (not an official KOGs category) gem, of which
only 50 will ever exist.
November 24 — ‘RFOX2020’ KOG: $529
The RFOX2020 KOG is promotional yet highly sought-after. They rarely appear on the market. But when they do, collectors are willing to spend over $500 for the privilege of owning one!
October 10 — Foil Ultra-Rare ‘Bitcoin’ KOG with Digital Dawn Border: $1,236
Remember when we told you that Foil Ultra-Rares fetch high prices? Mint #4 (of 5) is a shining example. But we can go even bigger!
September 25 — Foil Ultra-Rare ‘Satoshi Nakamoto’ Slammer with Digital Dawn Border: $2,055
If the Foil Satoshi KOG has anything to teach us, $2k is the fair market value for a #1 mint.
What’s particularly interesting about these high-end purchases is how 2 of 3 went to the same buyer: ngzaw.wam.
As you can see on the top KOGs collectors page, that account ranks high in the Top Buyers category. And because the borders match, we suspect this account's in pursuit of a Foil Ultra-Rare Digital Dawn Superset.
The KOGs 1st Edition is an overwhelming success, no doubt. And the good news is that even more digital collectibles will be here in mere weeks!
2nd Edition Rapidly Approaching
On December 22, the KOGs dynasty continues its forward march. We don’t have a crystal ball, but the release of KOGs 2nd Edition NFTs might make 1st Edition sets much harder to assemble.
Want a taste of what’s in store? Great — here’s a quick spoiler for you ...
With the 2nd Edition less than a month away, don’t wait too long to complete your unfinished KOGs 1st Edition sets!
